How do I initiate CarGurus Pay? (Buyer)

After submitting an offer, here are a couple things to keep in mind when communicating with the seller:

  • Be sure to ask any questions you may have about the vehicle.
  • Be timely with your responses as the seller may be responding to many other buyers.
  • Ask if you can set up a time to see/test drive the vehicle.

When the offer gets accepted, the seller has the option to start the checkout on their end. If they do, you will receive an invitation in your CarGurus inbox that looks similar to this:

After clicking "Start My Purchase" you will be asked to fill out some basic information and also provide your ID for verification:

If the seller does not send this invitation, feel free to initiate the process on your end by clicking "Start Purchase":

Once you click "Start My Purchase" you will be redirected to a screen that looks similar to this:

If you require financing through CarGurus, let us know and one of our team members will be able to discuss that with you in more detail when they reach out.  Please note that CarGurus Pay will not be available if you are proceeding with external financing. 

After verifying your identity, you will be asked to confirm your information for the bill of sale:

After you click submit, expect a call within 1 business day where a CarGurus representative will be able to set up the direct payment process and finalize the sale!
