Featured Private Listings
CarGurus offers Featured Listings for private sellers!
Featured Listings are available to our private sellers only in selected ZIP code areas. Please read the information below to find out how to qualify for priority positioning and what is included in the upgrade package.
When do I qualify for priority positioning?
You can purchase a Featured Listing for your vehicle if:
- You are located in one of the selected ZIP code areas*
- Your deal rating is FAIR, GOOD, or GREAT. (What does this mean?)
*We do not have an available list of locations. You will only see an option to upgrade if you are located in an active ZIP code area.
How much will a Featured Listing cost me and what will it guarantee?
The price of a Featured Listing is $19.99 and it will provide priority positioning for your listing for 14 days.
Purchasing a Featured Listing will not guarantee more views or an increase in the number of buyer inquiries. If the deal rating on the listing changes within the 14-day period and does not meet the Fair, Good, or Great requirement, the featured placement is forfeited and will not be refunded.
What if my listing does not have a deal rating?
Our IMV algorithm may not rate your listing due to elements in its vehicle history. In these instances, we do not offer the option to upgrade the listing. However, if there is no deal rating due to a lack of comparable vehicles in your area, you can still purchase the featured status!

Where can I upgrade my listing and what will it look like?
You will be able to upgrade your listing when creating your ad on the Sell My Car page as well as from your My Cars for Sale page if your listing is already posted:
How can I check on the status of my Featured Listing?
You can go to your account at any time to check the days remaining on your Featured listing, and your listing view count, and to respond to buyer inquiries!
Can I renew my Featured Listing when the 14 days expire?
There is no limit on the number of Featured Listings a private seller can purchase for their vehicle. Once your priority positioning expires, you will be able to purchase another 14 days of priority positioning by going to your My Cars for Sale page!
What happens if my car is selected for listing photo verification?
We sometimes ask private sellers to verify ownership of their vehicles. If you have purchased priority positioning, your 14-day period will be put on hold until we receive photo verification.
If a seller fails to submit verification after three attempts, the featured placement purchase is forfeited and will not be refunded.
Please note that the # of days on CarGurus will include the verification processing times and cannot be reset.
Can I get a refund if I decide to close my Featured Listing early?
CarGurus does not offer refunds of any kind for private Featured Listings.
